CFJ 8th Grade Race Team

The Next Step for 8th Grade Rowers Ready to Race!

This course is for 8th graders who have previously been on the CFJ Developmental Middle School team and are proficient in the basics of rowing on the water and looking to dive deeper! This is the next step for athletes interested in pursuing rowing more, learning the fundamentals of racing on the water, applying their skills while developing and reinforcing general fitness, technical proficiency, and communication & teamwork skills on and off the water.​ Athletes would practice as an 8th grade group on Wednesdays and then join and mix in with the recreational rowing team on Thursdays & Fridays. The team would be split up into groups dependent on skill level & numbers, helping athletes get the development they need.

Athletes would build towards competing at one regatta this fall, racing in the Middle School category. Line ups, number of boats racing, and participation in the regatta are at the discretion of the coaching staff, the goal is to get everyone on the water and racing.

Tentative Regatta Date: Head of the Cuyahoga, September 26th, Cleveland, Ohio or Blake Haxton Regatta, October 24th, Columbus, Ohio.

Experience level: Athletes must have competed 1 season on the CFJ Developmental team & be in 8th grade.
