An After School Program for 6th-8th Graders!
The Explore Sailing STEM Club is an onshore after school program for 6th-8th graders interested in learning about the science, technology, engineering and math involved in sailing! Students will develop background knowledge and transferable life skills to enjoy sailing on Lake Erie as early as the following semester or summer. With the help of US Sailing REACH certified STEM instructors, 6-8th graders measure sails, learn about local waterways, investigate buoyancy, race sailing simulators, build wind anemometers, design boats, and more.
The Explore Sailing STEM Club is perfect for sailors looking to supplement their on-the-water training, and great for middle schoolers interested in learning to sail! Students will work closely with the Foundry sailing coaches that will deliver instruction on the water in future programs. This program offers introductory activities that deepen students’ understanding of the how and why behind sailing, so they are eager to get into a boat and learn more! Students that enjoy the Explore Sailing STEM Club can register for Explore Sailing Camps and then The Foundry’s Middle School Developmental racing program to continue developing their sailing skills.
