Sailing Camp Counselor
Part Time
$16-19/hr
Sailing Camp Counselors help create a safe, fun, and inclusive learning environment on shore and on the water. Spend your summer sharing your passion for sailing, building small-boat skills, and helping young sailors experience the thrill of sailing on Lake Erie, while making a lasting impact on the Cleveland community!

Key Responsibilities

Supervise sailors during all camp activities, on land and on the water

Deliver sailing instruction as directed by senior instructors and the Director of Sailing

Prepare and maintain boats, sails, safety gear, and camp equipment

Support and deliver curriculum aligned with camp learning outcomes

Foster a safe, inclusive, and focused learning environment

Manage group dynamics and classroom behavior effectively
-
Communicate attendance, injuries, equipment damage, and incidents promptly
-
Maintain required certifications appropriate to the position

Assist with daily setup, breakdown, and end-of-day debrief

Experienced in dinghy sailing and racing

Capable of independently handling a dinghy sailboat, and proficient in helming

Adult Sailing Instructors lead keelboat-based learn-to-sail programs for beginners and developing sailors. Instructors create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment on the water while helping participants gain confidence in boat handling, teamwork, and seamanship. Spend your summer sharing your passion for sailing, teaching practical keelboat skills, and helping new sailors discover the excitement of sailing on Lake Erie!​

Key Responsibilities

Lead adult learn-to-sail instruction aboard J22 and/or T-10 keelboats during scheduled courses and sessions

Ensure the safety of all participants on the water and during dockside activities

Prepare boats and instructional materials to deliver curriculum aligned with Foundry learning objectives
-
Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment for participants of varying experience levels
-
Communicate clearly with participants regarding expectations, safety procedures, and sailing concepts
-
Report attendance, incidents, equipment damage, or safety concerns promptly
-
Assist with boat preparation, post-sail securing, and routine equipment care
-
Maintain required certifications appropriate to the position
Required Qualifications

Experience sailing and handling keelboats, including safe helming and docking in varied conditions

Experience teaching, coaching, or instructing adults or groups in learn-to-sail programs

The Foundry’s Associate Sailing Coaches for small boat programs are US Sailing certified small-boat instructors who help deliver engaging, high-quality instruction across youth, adult, and community sailing programs. This role supports on-the-water coaching, safety, and skill development while fostering a fun, inclusive learning environment both on shore and afloat.

Our Middle School Developmental and Interscholastic Sailing programs build sailing skills, teamwork, and
confidence while preparing students to transition from Learn-to-Sail programs into competitive interscholastic
racing on Lake Erie and beyond. As an Associate Coach, you will work closely with the Foundry Sailing Head Coach to support middle and high school sailors in small-boat and team-based racing programs.

Experienced in dinghy sailing and small-boat racing

Capable of independently handling and helming E420 sailboats safely

Skilled in safely operating RHIBs or inflatable coach boats for on-water instruction and supervision
