Explore Sailing Academy

Onshore After-School Program for 3rd-5th graders!

This program introduces young sailors, or “first mates,” to essential sailing concepts, including knot tying, points of sail, and basic marine safety. Through hands-on activities, students not only build sailing knowledge but also develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence—to set them up for success both on and off the water. The Foundry’s US Sailing Small Boat and STEM-certified instructors, use sailing simulators, STEM activities, remote-control sailboats, and engaging games, to introduce key topics such as sailing terminology, racing rules, and tiller steering, all in a fun and supportive environment. This after school program prepares students for The Foundry’s summer camps, offering students a strong foundation for their sailing journey. By participating in the Explore Sailing Academy, first mates gain the skills, confidence, and enthusiasm needed to embark on a lifetime of sailing in Cleveland and beyond!
