Summer Programs

The Foundry is a local non-profit organization located in the flats of Cleveland. Our mission is to transform the lives of Cleveland’s youth through access to the sports of rowing and sailing.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, the Foundry, in coordination with the US Rowing Association, is opening its doors and offering FREE instructional clinics as part of a National Learn-to-Row Day. For National Learn to Row Day, we are having our community youth (rising 6th through 12th grade) come out and learn about and try the sport of rowing! No prior experience is required!
During the clinic, our experienced coaches will show a tour of the boathouse, provide information on the boats and oars, explain basic rowing terminology, and guide the participant through activities designed to build the knowledge and skill of the rowing stroke. The participants will have the opportunity to practice on indoor rowers and state-of-the-art indoor rowing tanks. Additionally, participants can elect to register for the "on water" portion of the program, allowing them to test out their newly acquired skills on the Cuyahoga River.

Instructional Session: 9am - 11:00am

(Includes erg and indoor tank practice)

On Water Session* : 11:00am - 12:00pm

(Apply learning from erg and tank practices in a rowing shell on the Cuyahoga River)

**Please note that all participants will be required to wear a life jacket if participating in the "on water" portion of the session.  Please review the swimming skill requirements outlined in the Foundry Waiver located at the end of the registration. The Foundry will provide all required safety gear including life jackets and pontoons. The "on water" segment is weather permitting.

Learn to row this summer on the Cuyahoga River at the Foundry. During our camps, middle and high school students will learn the basics of rowing, build fitness, discover and experience Cleveland's waterways and even conduct experiments  in a safe and fun environment led by our skilled instructors. Enjoy the best views of Cleveland and beat the heat by learning to row this summer at the Foundry.

Our summer youth rowing program is open to students in 6th - 12th grades. Any questions regarding program selection can be directed to the coaching staff at

The Foundry provides instruction by a certified coach, professionally maintained boats, insurance, safety fleet, safety gear and administrative support.

For those first-time rowers who wish to discover the sport of rowing, the Foundry offers a half day Introduction to Rowing camp during the first week of each Learn to Row session.  This instructional camp is designed to familiarize the new rower with the waterfront and provide an introduction to the sport and fundamental rowing skills.   Participants will learn in our campus classroom, state-of-the art indoor rowing tanks and on the water.  The camp takes place Monday through Friday at the Foundry.
