2024 OHIO BOATER’S EDUCATION COURSE (OBEC)

Foundry Volunteers, Interested Volunteers and associated rowing and sailing community friends,
It’s a great new year at the Cleveland Foundry and we want to be sure all those interested in our rowing and sailing opportunities are eligible to step in and volunteer whenever the on-water need arises within our programs, practices, regattas, and Foundry Experiences. As you may know, persons born on or after January 1, 1982, who operates a boat in Ohio powered by more than 10 horsepower must provide proof of a boater’s education course.
The Ohio Boating Education Course will be offered as a two-part program here at the Foundry Main Campus 1831 Columbus Rd. from 6pm -10pm on Monday April 1st and Tuesday April 2nd 2024. This course will be offered free of charge for those within the Foundry Boathouses and associated rowing or sailing communities. Certified Instructor Leigh Garam will provide the proctored (in person) 7-hour course split over two evenings. The course will include a power point presentation on the “rules of the road” followed by a competency test. Once the course is completed; you will receive an official license from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) office in Columbus within a few weeks.
There is no charge for Foundry registered athletes, or associated parent volunteers, community rowing or sailing volunteers, or up and coming junior / associate coaches.
Community members that are interested in taking this course for their personal benefit are welcome to do so for a fee of $30.00 payable to The Cleveland Foundry.
If you have any questions about his course please contact instructor LEIGH GARAM directly through email at lgaram@clevelandfoundry.org
