Explore sailing STEM CLUB
The Explore Sailing STEM Club focuses on science, technology, engineering and math in the sport of sailing! With the help of US Sailing REACH STEM instructors, 6-8th graders measure sails, learn about local waterways, investigate buoyancy, race on sailing simulators, build wind anemometers, design boats, and more. The Explore Sailing STEM Club is perfect for sailors looking to supplement their on-the-water training, and great for middle schoolers interested in learning to sail! EXPLORE PRAM SAILING
Explore Pram Sailing is a series of introductory sailing experiences, catered to 5–7-year-olds. Instruction begins on land and works up to time on the water in one person, eight-foot sailboats called prams. “First mates” will experience steering a boat and finding the wind with the help of The Foundry’s US Sailing small boat instructors. On the water instruction may take place in a pool or protected basin in Lake Erie. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay on site and participate in programming with their “first mates”!

First MATES, MIDDLE SCHOOL, & High school
The Foundry’s Explore Sailing Camps are learn to sail camps for rising 3rd -12th graders! Sailors will gain background knowledge and skills to sail one or two person boats on Lake Erie at beginner and intermediate levels. Explore sailing camp instruction is delivered by experienced, certified US Sailing small boat instructors that focus on safety and fun. Sailors will spend time on shore learning the points of sail, parts of the boat, knot tying, rules of the road, and more, before taking to the water to practice sail trim and tiller steering. The Foundry recommends one or two weeks of beginner camps before intermediate. Sailors will complete a skills check at the beginning and end of every camp, to determine their readiness to move on to intermediate or interscholastic camps.
interscholastic sailing CAMP
Learn to race camps for rising 6-12th graders! This camp prepares sailors for The Foundry’s Interscholastic sailing programs: Middle School Developmental or High School racing. The Foundry recommends a minimum of two weeks of Explore Sailing Camp before Interscholastic Sailing Camp.
